The National Press Club’s President Joel Egco was disappointed to the guest speaker DILG Sec. Mar Roxas’ statements regarding the commemoration of Gat Marcelo H. Del Pilar’s 165th birth anniversary at Del Pilar’s Shrine in San Nicolas Bulakan, Bulacan yesterday.
According to Joel Egco, Marcelo H. Del Pilar, the father of Philippine Press freedom, must be honour and the day of his birth must be implemented as the National Press Freedom Day which Roxas never mentioned on his speech.
The ceremony started by the parade of the townsmen and other officials including the Knights of Columbus. As of 8 o’clock, the guest speaker DILG Sec. Mar Roxas arrived together with the Bulakan’s Mayor Patrick Meneses, Vice Governor Daniel Fernando and Governor Willy Alvarado.
Mayor Patrick Meneses was the first one had his speech about the ceremony followed by Governor Wilhelmino Alvarado then DILG Sec. Mar Roxas.
Mar proclaimed that Marcelo H. Del Pilar was the first person who started the “Daang Matuwid” that he and his party promote.
According to Mrs. Vilma Cabigao, “ah masasabi ko lang na siya ang naging pangunahing pandangal, isang malaking bahagi ang pagbibigay puri niya sa ahh sa ating bayani na si Marcelo H. Del Pilar sa ganitong event.”
